What is FUDR (Floxuridine)?

FUDR stands for floxuridine, a drug used in the treatment of cholangiocellular carcinoma (CCC, a tumor of the bile ducts in the liver) in the context of intra-arterial chemotherapy. A special pump is implanted directly in the liver to deliver the drug in a targeted manner, which increases its effectiveness and reduces side effects. This innovative method requires a high degree of interdisciplinary cooperation and is particularly effective in the treatment of liver cancer. The FUDR pump is exclusively available in our GITZ network across Europe, making it a unique treatment option.

The application is often used in combination with other procedures, such as TACE or TARE, to control tumor growth locally. FUDR inhibits the division of tumor cells and can thus slow their growth or reduce tumors.

Benefits for patients:

  • Targeted local effect on liver tumors
  • Reduced systemic side effects compared to classic chemotherapy
  • Combination with other minimally invasive therapies possible

FUDR is particularly valuable for patients whose tumors are inoperable or recur after surgery. Targeted administration allows for an optimal balance between efficacy and tolerability.
