What does metastatic pancreatic cancer mean?

If the tumor in the pancreas has already formed metastases, this is referred to as the metastatic stage. A cure is usually not possible at this point, but modern therapies can slow down the progression of the disease and alleviate symptoms.

Treatment depends on the patient’s general condition. Targeted drugs may also be used in cases of certain genetic mutations (e.g., BRCA mutation).

It is important to provide holistic care that includes pain management, nutrition, exercise, psychological support, and early palliative care.

The prognosis remains serious, but many patients today benefit from longer survival times and a better quality of life thanks to modern treatment concepts. Care in experienced centers/networks that tailor treatment to the individual is crucial.
