The Benefits of Aspirin in Colon Cancer

A study on colorectal cancer has yielded new findings. The study investigated whether certain patients might benefit from additional treatment with aspirin following surgery. The results showed that people whose tumors exhibited a specific genetic alteration (PI3K mutation) had a significantly lower risk of recurrence when taking aspirin. The treatment is simple, well-tolerated, and similarly effective to chemotherapy. Therefore, it may be advisable to test the tumor tissue for this mutation and discuss the possibility of aspirin therapy with the treatment team.
