Organ preservation in rectal cancer: If, following treatment aimed at organ preservation, the tumor has not completely disappeared or reappears during follow-up examinations, surgical removal must be considered. Even if the patient does not wish to undergo frequent follow-up examinations or is unable to attend them, the goal of organ preservation must be reconsidered.
