“No-Cut Study” for Rectal Cancer: A Surprisingly Good Long-Term Response
New findings on the treatment of rectal cancer were presented at the 2024 ESMO Congress. The study showed that in about a quarter of patients, the tumor disappeared completely following intensive pre-treatment with chemotherapy and radiation therapy. As a result, these patients no longer require surgery but are instead closely monitored. The long-term results are very good: after about 30 months, 97% had not experienced a recurrence, confirming the safety of this organ-preserving approach.
