New Treatment Option Using FUDR for CCC (Cholangiocellular Carcinoma)

New treatment options were presented during the continuing education session on bile duct carcinoma (cholangiocarcinoma, CCC). When the tumor is too advanced, surgery is often not an option. A particularly promising option is intra-arterial therapy with FUDR, in which this medication is delivered directly to the tumor via the hepatic artery. This can significantly reduce the tumor burden. In one study, nearly all patients responded to the treatment, and the 3-year survival rate rose from 3% to approximately 33%. The therapy is well tolerated but requires an experienced team. This new option is available exclusively at GITZ.
