Increased cancer rates among Generation Y and Generation X

Contrary to previous assumptions, certain types of cancer are also on the rise among younger people. A recent study published in 2024 shows that tumors of the colon, pancreas, liver, and bile ducts, as well as breast and uterine cancer, are occurring more frequently, particularly among Generation X and millennials. The exact causes are still unclear, but lifestyle, diet, and obesity are suspected to play a role. The findings underscore how important prevention, a healthy diet, and exercise are for younger people as well.

Update 2026: Microplastics have also become an evidence-based indicator of increased incidence in cases such as colorectal cancer.
